PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction member in which thickness of each layer can be constantly formed in a friction member with a multi-layer structure and an apparatus and a method for producing it. SOLUTION: A slide plate 3 in which a cavity 3a with a definite depth is provided is freely movably provided between a plunger 2 and a fixed mold 5 and a hopper 6 for an adhesive raw material is provided in the neighborhood of a frame 1 and its outlet 6a is arranged so as to be brought into contact with the slide plate 3. When the slide plate 3 is moved left and right of the figure and the cavity 3a is brought under the hopper 6, the bottom end face 6b of the hopper acts as a plate for cutting by rubbing to feed the adhesive raw material 8 into the cavity. This adhesive raw material is moved under a frame 1 and after a definite amt. of a friction material 9 is fed to make the thickness uniform, pressure molding is performed by means of the plunger 2. A multi-layer structure of at least three layers can be obtd. by using a constitution wherein a plurality of slide plates 3 are laminated.
