DEVICE FOR AUTHENTICATING DIGITAL IMAGES

The invention concerns a device for authenticating digital images and a system implementing said method, the system comprising an imaging device- video camera or photographic camera- and a device for processing data derived from the imaging device. The imaging device comprises means for hashing and signing successive fractions of the filmed or photographed signal. The signal derived from the imaging device is constructed by multiplexing the signal in clear and the hashed and signed fractions. The processing device comprises a demultiplexer for separating the hashed and signed data from the decoded signal, means for hashing the signal fractions corresponding to the signal fractions which have been hashed and signed in the imaging device, means for carrying out a public key encryption of the hashed and signed signal fractions, and means for comparing the fractions the hashed signal fractions in the processing device with the data derived from the public key encryption. The signal derived from the comparator enables to indicate whether the digital signals which have been filmed are authentic or forged. The invention is particularly applicable to hand-held television cameras used by professional reporters.
