PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound that is useful for forming the lubricating layer on the magnetic recording medium having excellent surface lubricity, abrasion resistance, sliding durability and application stability for a long period of time, as deterioration caused by decomposition is inhibited, by producing the recording medium so it may have a specific structure. SOLUTION: In order to have the chemical structure of the formula: L<1> -Z-L<2> (Z is a high molecular chain having recurring units of -CF2 CF2 CF2 O-; L<1> is fluorine or the like; L<2> is a terminal group of -A<2> -Q: A<2> is a direct bond or the like; Q is a group of formula I; R is a 1-5C alkylene), the corresponding polyether compound that has hydroxyl groups instead of cyclic ether groups at the chain terminals, for example, a compound of formula II (p, q are each a positive integer), and anα,β-unsaturated cyclic ether (for example, 3,4- dihydro-2H-pyran) in an almost equivalent amount but a little excessive amount are allowed to react with each other in a solvent of a fluorinated hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a catalyst amount of a protonic acid. In a preferred embodiment, the objective compound has a number-average molecular weight of 500-10,000. |
