The anti-theft device operates on the ignition/starter switch (4, 5) of the motor vehicle. A number of impedances (11) are connected in parallel with the ignition/starter switch. The remainder of the ignition/starter circuit incorporates a device (12) which analyses the impedance of the system and permits current to flow in the ignition/starting circuit only if the correct impedances are measured. Bridging of the wires either removes or shunts the impedances. The preferred impedances are resistors and the analysis is obtained by applying a potential to the circuit and comparing the resulting current against a reference value. A timer may be used to inhibit restart attempts. |
