PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new peptide containing a specific amino acid sequence, having cortistatin-like activity or somatostatin-like activity and useful for treatment, prevention, etc., of hormone-producing tumor, acromegaly, giantism, dementia or gastric ulcer. SOLUTION: This new peptide contains an amino acid sequence represented by formula I or an amino acid sequence (excluding amino acid represented by formula II or formula III) losing, substituting or inserting one to five amino acids in the amino acid sequence of formula I and has cortistatin-like activity or somatostatin-like activity and is useful as an agent for treating and preventing hormone-producing tumor, acromegaly, giantism, dementia or gastric ulcer, a hormone secretion inhibitor, tumor proliferation suppressor, a modifier, etc., for neural activity or sleep. The peptide is obtained by cloning cDNA library derived from every cells of human and warm-blooded animals by using a synthetic primer having a partial base sequence of the peptide and integrating the cloned DNA into a vector and expressing the DNA. |
