The engine has pre-compression in the crankcase (11) using the piston upstroke to draw charge in for pre compression as the piston (6) descends. The pre-compressed charge is fed into the combustion chamber (15) by a feed passage (16). There is a rich mixture feed passage (12) opening into the crankcase and an inlet passage (21) for a weak air mixture into the crankcase chamber. The duct connecting the rich mixture feed passage and a fuel feed (14) is disposed to cut the periphery of the cheek (9) of the flywheel.
