PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color filter having excellent smoothness and suitable for mass production by applying a silver halide photosensitive material on a surface of a substrate opposite to the surface where a liquid crystal is applied, exposing the photosensitive material to light for patterning, color-developing and desilverizing to form a filter. SOLUTION: A silver halide photosensitive material is applied on a surface of a plastic film substrate opposite to the surface where a liquid crystal is applied. The photosensitive material is exposed to light for patterning, color- developed and desilverized to form a color filter. The substrate is required to be optically isotropic and excellent in heat resistance, dimensional stability, solvent resistance, electric insulating property, formability, low gas permeability and low moisture absorption, and for example, polyethylene terephthalate can be used. It is preferable that the silver halide photosensitive material consists of at least three silver halide emulsion layers containing couplers and having different sensitivity of colors and nonphotosensitive intermediate layers formed by coating. |
