<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the angle of visibility without any need of increasing the number of processes by including many zones having different fluff length from each other. SOLUTION: A roller 1 with a fabric of long fluff length such as velvet wound around is rotated and made to pass along the upper surface of a liquid crystal display substrate 3 having an orientation film 2 formed thereon. A rubbing cloth wound around the roller 1 is formed to have, for example, A-zones with long fluff length and B-zones with short fluff length, and a rubbing force acting on the orientation film 2 of the substrate 3 is thereby made different for every small part of the substrate 3. In this case, the A-zones and the B-zones are preferably laid alternately and regularly in a repeated way, and a bearer 4 and the roller 1 are driven so that the breadth of each zone corresponds to one picture element of the substrate 3. One picture element formed on the substrate 3 is subjected to the same rubbing force and other picture elements adjacent to each other are subjected to a different rubbing force. According to this construction, each type of zones can be formed to have a different inclination angle between a liquid crystal molecule and the substrate 3.</p> |
