<p>The present invention provides a method and apparatus for an object oriented database management system. The present invention may be advantageously used in a client/server architecture comprising a knowledge base client and a knowledge base server (132). A plurality of users may access the system at the same time. In a preferred embodiment, the knowledge base server (132) may include a dynamic class manager (134), a connection manager (135), a query manager (136), a handle manager (137), a units manager (138), a database manager (1349), and a file manager (140). The object oriented database system is hierarchical. Each instance in a knowledge base may be a member of a class, and a class may be a subclass of a parent class, and so on.</p> |
