<p>A lift-top bottle opener (10) for removing a conventional lift-top from a co-operating bottle, is disclosed. The lift-top has a thumb receiving protrusion having a front face in the shape of an inverted triangle, with two outwardly and downwardly facing side surfaces separated one from the other by the front face. The opener comprises an elongated lever member (12) and a lift-top engaging end (14) extending from the lever member (12) terminating in a free end (13) and having a lift-top engaging portion. A tongue (16) extends outwardly from the lift-top engaging end. A fork portion (22) extends outwardly from the tongue (16), and has a back portion (23) and two tines (24, 26) projecting outwardly from the back portion toward the free end of the lift-top engaging end, with the tines terminating at a distance 'D' from the free end of the lift-top engaging end. The tines are shaped and dimensioned to straddle the central vertex of a lift-top such that each tine engages one of the two outwardly and downwardly facing side surfaces of the thumb receiving protrusion of a lift-top. In use, the lift-top engaging portion of the lift-top engaging end engages the top surface of a lift-top, and the two tines of the fork portion engage the thumb receiving protrusion of a lift-top, and, upon lifting of the lever member, the tines push upwardly on the thumb receiving protrusion, thereby permitting lifting of the engaged lift-top off a lift-top bottle.</p> |
