PURPOSE:To reduce the heat capacity of a local heat generating area of a catalyst carrier and to shorten the temp. rising time in a honeycomb-shaped electric heating type catalyst device in which metal foils having an insulating layer are laminated by holding the ends of a catalyst after lamination to locally join them to attain electrical heating. CONSTITUTION:The surface of at least a flat foil 1 out of the flat fol 1 and a corrugated foil 2 is subjected to oxidation treatment to form an oxidized film, and also the width of the corrugated foil 2 is made larger by (t) than that of the flat one 1. The flat foil 1 and the corrugated foil 2 are wound around a central electrode 3 which is centered, with one end sides made even with each other and with the corrugated foils 2 on the other end side projecting from the flat foil 1. At this time, the projection parts of the corrugated foils 2 are joined by holding the corrugated foils 2 between the adjacent layers to constitute a catalyst carrier having electric short- circuit path 5 continuously connecting joint points 4. By applying voltage to between the central electrode 3 and an outer casing 6, heat is generated in the electric short- circuit path 5. In this way, by making only the corrugated foils 2 a heating part, the heat capacity of the heat generating parts is reduced to shorten the temp. rising time. |
