PURPOSE:To obtain a new physiologically active compound having squalene synthase inhibiting activity and useful as a hyperlipemia treating agent. CONSTITUTION:This compound of formula I, i.e., a physiologically active substance of schizostatin, preferably a physiologically active substance of trans-type schizostatin of formula II or its salt. The compound of formula I is obtained by culturing a microbial strain belonging to the genus Schizophyllum, preferably Schizophyllum commune SANK17785 and producing the physiologically active substance of schizostatin and subjecting the cultured product to conventional separation and purification processes. |
