LOW-THERMAL INERTIA MOLD AND ITS USE FOR IMPROVING SURFACE OF PRODUCT PRODUCED BY BLOW MOLDING OR THERMOFORMING

PURPOSE: To manufacture a low thermal inertia mold by positioning at least one of mold-halves having cooling and heating systems close to the cavity surface of the one of above mold-halves. CONSTITUTION: An extrusion tube or a flat sheet 5 to be processed by the blow molding or the thermoforming is disposed between two mold-halves 2 and 2' of a mold. A surface-upgrading film 7 placed between the tube or the sheet 5 and the mold-halves 2 is unwound from a reel 6, and tension is applied by a roll 8. At the time of processing, the mold is closed and molding is carried out by the technology heretofore available. When the tube or the sheet is molded, a molded article is manufactured by pressing surface-upgrading film 7 to cavities 2 of the mold-halves simultaneously in the embodiment. While the mold is found in the state of being closed, the operation of making the film adhere on the surface of a molded article is carried out. Heating and cooling are applied only on the surfaces of mold-halves 2 and the improvement is achieved quickly on the surface of the molded article by the arrangement.
