PURPOSE: To extremely accurately form a tape contact surface part relating to a reference plane by making end parts arranged obliquely to the reference plane be adjacent with each other to eliminate a difference in level. CONSTITUTION: A pattern 19 is provided with a column of markers 27A-27J, the width of the markers is (b) and a distance between the markers is the width (d). The markers are provided with first end parts 27A1-27J1 and second end parts 21A2-27J2 and the respective markers are used for detecting the reference plane 29. The reference plane 29 is to stipulate the tape contact surface part 31 to be formed and thus, stipulates a magnetic pole height (h). The tape contact surface part 31 is formed by removing a material by grinding for instance and a grinding direction is indicated by an arrow A. The markers 27A-27J are formed so as to incline the second end parts 27A2-27J2 to the reference plane 29.
