<p>A process for preparing 5-(4-hydroxyphenyl)hydantoin, comprises reacting alpha -(4-hydroxyphenyl) - alpha -hydroxyacetic acid, or a C1-3 alkyl ester thereof, with bis(trimethylsilyl)urea, in the presence of chlorotrimethylsilane or dichlorodimethylsilane; and hydrolysing the reaction mixture with an aqueous mineral acid.</p> |
