<p>Flexible film material for wrapping or covering food such as meat and vegetables without substantial propagation of bacteria and germs, comprises a mixture of a flexible synthetic resin and carbon fibres which are grown on line powder of a refractory metal or a derivative thereof by thermolysis of hydrocarbons or vapour growth and plated with metal. The mixture is also applicable to a food-carrying container, when a more solid and tough synthetic resin is used. The metal plating of the carbon fibres gives germicidal power to the material, and the ordered graphite structure of the carbon fibres gives good strength to the material. The carbon fibres may be plated with silver, or with an underlayer of copper and an overlayer of silver. The metal may be formed on the surface of the carbon fibres by electrolytic, non-electrolytic or vacuum plating. The synthetic resin may be selected from polyethylene, poly(vinylchloride), polypropylene, polystyrene, ABS, acrylic resins, vinyl acetate resins, polyesters, polyamides, polyethers, phenol resins, amino resins, epoxy resins and polyurethanes.</p> |
