PURPOSE:To output characters or figures by irreducible necessary processing by providing a calculating means which calculates the occupation range of a contour shape according to code information read out to a generating means for generating a dot pattern and a generating means which generates a rectangular pattern according to the range. CONSTITUTION:A storage means is stored with the contour shapes of characters and figures from a vector font ROM 6 as the code information, a CPU 2 generates dot patterns according to the read-out code information, and output part 9 outputs the generated dot patterns. Under the control of the CPU 2, the calculating means calculates the occupation range of the contour shapes according to the read-out code information to omit processing for generating the shapes of the characters or figures; when the processing is carried on to a final contour control point 128, a minimum rectangular pattern 204 of size based upon the current maximum and minimum values is developed on a dot pattern generation memory 8 on a scale which is indicated from outside. Consequently, the processing efficiency regarding time or resources can be improved. |
