The invention relates to a method and to a device which make it possible to adapt the blood flow rate provided by a heart prosthesis to the available capacity in the venous return of the patient. It consists of a sensor (11) for fluctuation in blood pressure, a sensor (10) for the angular position of the pump (3), a central unit (15) which receives the signals from the sensors (10, 11) and controls supply means (5), a memory (16) in which are stored the normal values of the fluctuating component of the blood pressure at the pump inlet. The device according to the invention is intended in particular for monitoring the functioning of heart prostheses in humans. <IMAGE>
