The invention relates to the stranding of elements in which said elements are drawn from a stationary supply source and introduced into a rotating store, the stranding being effected by the rotation of the store about its longitudinal axis and of the kind in which, when the store is full, its direction of rotation is changed. The completed cable is then drawn out whilst fresh elements continue to be drawn in. This results in a reversal of lay at intervals. According to the invention the rotation of the store is speeded up just before reversing its direction of motion, and its initial reverse speed is higher than its ultimate reverse speed. This results in a reversal point as shown in Fig. 2 in which at the reversal point U the lay lengths in the region a1, a2 are short compared with the remaining lay lengths. The resulting deformation of the elements prevents them opening out. |
