NEW MATERIAL:A growth hormone for scleroid fishes prepared by extraction of hypophysises of fishes belonging to oder Pleuroneticformes bastard halibuts. Amino acid composition: Asp 11.4, GlU 24.4, Ser 23, Gly 11, Ala 10.3, Val 10.3, Leu 24.8, Phe 12.6, Lys 12.2, etc.; Molecular weight: 22000; Isoelectric point 7.1; Peptide fragment prepared by digestion using lysyl end peptidase: fragment having amino acid sequences of formulae I and II. USE:A growth promoter for a bastard halibut, a rainbow trout, etc. PREPARATION:Hypophysis of a bastard halibut is ground under ice-cooling, delipidated using ice-cooled acetone and subsequently centrifuged. The resultant precipitate is then subjected to extraction using an alkali and the extracted solution is subsequently centrifuged followed by dialysis of the separated supernatant using distilled water.
