Electronic circuit for protection against overvoltages and current surges

The circuit comprises a transistor-based current switch 4 placed in series between a power supply 1 and an application circuit 3. The current switch 4 is coupled to a threshold detector 5 through a control circuit 6. The latter controls the flow of the current through the current switch 4 when the voltage provided by the power supply 2 is below a specified threshold voltage value and blocks the flow of current in the contrary case when the voltage provided by the power supply 2 is greater than the specified voltage threshold. It also comprises a parallel feedback circuit 7 coupled between the application circuit 3 and the control circuit 6 in order to block the flow of current through the current switch 4 when the current draw required by the application circuit 3 exceeds a specified value of current; and a bias circuit 8 for blocking conduction by the current switch when the direction of the DC voltage provided by the power supply applied to the electronic protection circuit is reversed.
