Sanitary device comprising a bowl designed to receive, through an opening in its upper part, material and/or liquids to eliminate a user's products; a sitting surface approximately flat and horizontal on the edge of the opening, provided for the user to sit on; and a lifting cover 5 which, when lowered, closes the opening in the bowl. Characterised in that the cover 5 has cleaning nozzles 6 which, when the cover is lowered, are each designed to direct a cleaning jet onto the sitting surface. This device is provided so that, after use, the cover can be lowered and then the sitting surface can be cleaned by the jets. <IMAGE>
