PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING A SPARK PLUG FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES

In a process for manufacturing a spark plug for internal combustion engines with at least two metal electrodes separated by a spark gap, at least one of the electrodes has a metallic coating of a highly abrasion-resistant material (noble metal). This material is deposited on the front surface of the metal electrode by laser radiation so as to form an alloy region of special design between the two parts. The special alloy region compensates for the different coefficients of thermal expansion of the electrode material and the metallic coating and effectively prevents depletion of the metallic coating.
