PURPOSE:To prevent density from being lowered, even in the case of a stiff image- receiving substrate such as a PET film for OHP, by incorporating a heat-absorbing material in or in the vicinity of the image-receiving substrate and a dyeable layer provided thereon. CONSTITUTION:An image-receiving material 1 for thermal transfer comprises a substrate 2 and a dyeable layer 3, which comprises a heat-absorbing material 4. Various near infrared-absorbing coloring matter can be used as the heat-absorbing material. For example, a nitroso compound, a metal complex thereof and a polymethine coloring matter can be used. Also, high molecular weight substances having a low glass transition temperature such as most of transparent latent heat-accumulating materials can be used. A transfer material 6 comprises a coloring material layer 8 on one side of a base 7 and a lubricative heat-resistant layer 9 on the other side. With the dyable layer 3 of the image receiving material 1 and the coloring material layer 8 of the transfer material 6 opposed to each other, a thermal head 10 is disposed in contact with the heat-resistant layer 9 to perform-recording. The base 7 of the transfer material 6 is generally a film of PET or the like or a thin paper, having a thickness of 2-10 mum and the lubricative heat-resistant layer 9 having a thickness of 1-2 mum is provided on one side thereof, whereas the coloring material layer 8 comprises a coloring matter and a binder resin. |
