Novel piperidine compounds of the general formula <IMAGE> in which at least one of R<3>, R<4> and R<5> is <IMAGE> or <IMAGE>, and the others are, independently, H or C1-6- alkyl, in which R' is H, C1-8-alkyl, phenyl, thienyl, cyclopropyl or C1-3-alkoxymethyl; and R<1> and R<6> are, independently, H or C1-6-alkyl <IMAGE> is <IMAGE> or <IMAGE>; and a salt thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid. The novel compounds can be used for stimulating the cognitive functions of the forebrain and hippocampus in mammals and can be used for treating Alzheimer's disease.
