1305043 Gloss coatings COMPLEMENTOS INDUSTRIALES SA 5 March 1970 [6 March 1969] 10660/70 Heading B2E Paper or fabrics are provided with a glossy finish by providing a glaze in a solvent, which glaze has the property after complete removal of the solvent of remaining adhesive but being able to harden, providing in a single application a layer of said glaze in a solvent to a surface of the substrate; removing all the solvent, e.g. by evaporation with infra red radiation, and while the glaze was adhesive superimposing a highly polished and glossy sheet, e.g. of polyethylene or polypropylene and laminating the substrate, glaze and glossy sheet by the application of pressure, said glossy sheet having the property of adhering to the glaze whilst the glaze is adhesive but losing adherence to the glaze when it hardens, allowing or causing the glaze to harden and then removing the glossy sheet. A plurality of discrete substrates each with a layer of glaze and applied glossy sheet may be laminated by superimposing them in a pile and applying pressure to the pile. The glaze may be formed of two components which react together to form a polymerisable film, the glossy sheet being applied to the glaze on a gelification phase of the glaze before polymerisation is complete. The glaze may also be of the type which hardens solely by the loss of solvent and if necessary a plasticiser may be added to provide the required adhesives. Specified glazes are nitrocellulose and vinyl resins. |
