PURPOSE:To improve the productivity of forging by driving a metallic die by an electric-hydraulic stepping cylinder, in a multiple spindle forging machine. CONSTITUTION:A square frame-shaped metallic die supporting member is provided on a body 1 of a multiple spindle forging machine, and metallic dies 4 which have been placed in the directions of an X axis, a Y axis and a Z axis are supported so as to be freely movable in the center direction. Also, a piston layer 6C of an electric - hydraulic step cylinder which has been attached to the metallic die supporting member is connected to each metallic die 4. A microcomputer in a supporting member is connected to each metallic die 4. A microcomputer in a control device 10 outputs an operating signal to a motor 9 of the stepping cylinder 6 of each axis in accordance with the contents which have been programmed in advance, and a work 3 is pressed and formed alternately through the piston layer 6C. According to this method, pressure forming in the direction of each axis of X, Y and Z can be executed. Accordingly, since the number of times of forging per unit time increases, the productivity of forging can be improved.
