PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a commutator surface by detecting a reaching to predetermined size of sparks from the commutator surface and cleaning the commutator surface by operating a wipe-out tool. CONSTITUTION:When sparks are generated from the surface of a commutator A1 for an exciter A during the operation of a generator, electromagnetic waves generate at the same time as the sparks are detected by a spark detector 5 through an antenna 9. A controller 8 receives the detecting signal of sparks, and drives a motor 10 for a driving mechanism when sparks reach prescribed size. A wipe-out tool 6a is brought into contact with the surface of the commutator A1 by the motor 10, and the surface of the commutator A1 is cleaned.
