PURPOSE:To obtain a member having a thoroughly sintered and solidified shoulder part, etc. by disposing electrodes at both ends of a vessel packed therein with powder, disposing a divided electrode to the step part in contact therewith and passing large impulse current between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The metallic powder 12 is packed into the electrically insulating vessel 11 made to a required shape. The electrodes 13, 14 are disposed so as to contact with both ends of the powder 12 in the vessel 11. The divided electrode 13a is successively provided to either one electrode, for example, the upper electrode 13 in the step part where the sectional shape changes sharply. The powder 12 is sintered by connecting respectively the electrode 13, the electrode 13a and the other electrode 14 opposite thereto to both terminals of an electric discharge circuit and passing the large impulse current thereto. The powder 12 is thoroughly welded in the step part as well by the above-mentioned method. The shoulder part is thus thoroughly sintered and solidified and the member such as stepped shaft sintered approximately uniformly over the entire part is obtd.
