PURPOSE:To perform the back-up recovery at a high speed and with high efficiency by using the propriety of writing to a volume as the fetching standard of the volume. CONSTITUTION:The rewriting processing is tried when the operating volumes 1 having the same volume serial number are fetched together with the back-up volumes 2. Thus a volume which is capable of rewriting is fetched. In a normal operating mode the volumes 1 and 2 are set under the writable and unwritable states respectively. Then the volume 1 is fetched. In case the volume 1 has a fault, etc. and is inapplicable, the volume 1 is set in the writing unable state with the volume 2 set in the writable state respectively. The volume 2 is fetched.
