PURPOSE:To provide a thermal transfer sheet imparting a smooth running property to a thermal head, preventing the roughness of a printed part and excellent in storage stability and a transfer property, obtained by providing a specific heat resistant protective layer to the surface of a substrate sheet having a thermal transfer layer in the side opposite to said thermal transfer layer. CONSTITUTION:To the surface of a substrate sheet (pref., a polyester film) having a thermal transfer layer (pref., a heat-sublimable transfer layer or a heat- meltable transfer layer) in the side opposite to said thermal transfer layer, a heat resistant protective layer containing a reaction product (A) of polyvinyl butyral and isocyanates (e.g., p-phenylene dissocyanate), an alkali (alkaline earth) metal phosphate (pref., sodium phosphate) (B), a filler (pref., calcium carbonate) (C) and, if necessary, phosphate in a salt free form (D) is provided to an objective thermal transfer sheet. |
