The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2-[2'-(optionally substituted, amino)-thiazol-4'-yl]-2-[oximino]acetic acids of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R and R1 have the meanings given in Claim 1, in which optionally substituted, N-(benzyloxycarbonyl)thioureas of the general formula III are reacted with C1 to C4-alkyl esters of 2-oximino-3-oxo-4-halo- or 2-oximino-3-oxo-4,4-dihalobutyric acids of the general formula IV, after which the C1 to C4-alkyl esters of the 2-[2'-(optionally substituted, amino)thiazol-4'-yl]-2-[oximino]acetic acids of the general formula I obtained are converted into other and/or reactive acyl derivatives.
