A standby power supply unit for drive motors which are supplied with three-phase or alternating current, especially for sliding armature motors, is proposed, in which a battery drives a DC motor which is mechanically connected to a generator. In addition to the at least one energising winding, the generator has permanent magnets on its rotor, which permanent magnets prevent breakdown of the magnetic field when the drive motors are connected.
