PURPOSE:To enable to effectively start a synchronous motor in a forward direction by providing a period of interrupting the energization longer than the prescribed period between the first half wave and the second half wave. CONSTITUTION:An extension unit 2a is extended by a circular-arc shape so as to flow from the ends of a core 2 in a reverse direction to the rotation (L) of a rotor 1. A blank period (t) in which no energization occurs during the prescribed period at the time point when the first half wave of the starting current is supplied at the starting time. Then, the second half wave opposite to the first half wave is supplied upon lapse of the period (t). Thereafter, the frequency of the AC supplied to an armature is gradually increased. In this manner, a rotor can be effectively started in a forward direction.
