PURPOSE:To perform handwriting input with minimum keys, by providing a means for comparing an input pattern with a reference pattern and identifying an input character in a handwriting input device. CONSTITUTION:In case of handwriting, input data are generated by depressing an input key on a key input part 11 and coordinate data prepared by conversion are stored in an input pattern memory 12 and sent to a picture number extracting block 13 to extract the number of pictures and store the extracted number in a picture number memory 14. A stroke characteristic is extracted by a storoke characteristic extracting block 15 and the extracted stroke characteristic is stored in a stroke characteristic memory 16. The number of pictures and the stroke characteristic stored in these memories 14, 16 are sent to a matching block 17 and compared with reference patterns read out from a reference patterns memory 18 to identify the character. The matching block 17 accesses a character generator 19 in accordance with the identified character, so that a dot pattern is generated in the character generator 19 and displayed on a display part 1. |
