A heat exchanger is presented which consists of an inner tube and an outer tube. By contrast with heat exchangers according to the prior art, the inner tube is formed from a tube and a tube enveloping this tube. The surface of one or both tubes is constructed to give rise to channels. This is achieved by producing ducts through extrusion or other suitable measures. The top sides of the ducts forming the channels serve the purpose of a tight fit between the tube and the enveloping tube. If, now, any damage occurs, eg. by corrosion between a flow channel in the inner tube and a flow channel, the fluid flows via the channels out of the heat exchanger into the atmosphere. It is possible to provide at the outlet known devices for detecting the escaping fluid and thus for indicating the leak.
