An ancillary device for telephones with a dial keypad comprises a two-part casing (14), i.e. a rectangular frame which surrounds the dial keypad and which can be attached to the front panel (12) of the telephone housing, and a sliding lid which is guided so that it can be moved in the longitudinal direction along the frame and is locked in its functional position by a mortise lock (22). The covering panel (16) of the slide frame has two apertures (18, 20) which release specific dial keys so that emergency calls and fire alarm messages can be transmitted. Once the lock (22) is opened, the sliding lid can be removed completely from the frame so that all the keys can be operated. <IMAGE>
