The top plate for a hydraulic or pneumatic press has an insulation system for a connection cable for a valve block with a control valve. The cable is secured by a screw which fits into a tapped hole in a cylindrical piston above the valve block. The top surface and upper part of this piston carry an insulating layer and a sealing ring is fitted around the top. This insulates the valve chamber below from the contact screw connection zone, where the screw also passes through an insulating bush which receives the pressure when the screw is inserted. The bottom of the piston is shouldered down to a smaller diameter, forming a space communicating with a control channel to pilot valve above.
