The feed mechanism is for use with an electrically-driven press having a set of punches and dies with a first stationary portion, and a second one moving in relation to the first and to an oblong magnetisable guide pin. It has a housing fixed to the moving portion, and accommodating annular winding. the guide pin fits in a bore in the housing inside the windings when the housing is fixed to the moving portion. Connections are provided for the windings to a power supply. The housing can be of magnetisable material, and can also contain thermostats cutting off the supply to the windings when temperature inside the housing reaches a predetermined value.
