1527389 Perfluoroalkylthio norbornanes CIBA-GEIGY AG 27 Aug 1976 [29 Aug 1975] 35795/76 Heading C2C Perfluoroalkylthio norbornanes of general formulae or an isomeric mixture thereof, where X is -O- or -N(R)-; each Y is -O-, -S- or -N(R)-; each R is H or C 1-24 alkyl or each -YR group is a Cl, Br or F atom; R<SP>1</SP> is a radical or where n = 1-12; R<SP>2</SP> is H or C 1-6 alkyl; Rf is C 1-18 perfluoroalkyl optionally substituted by C 2-6 perfluoroalkoxy; R<SP>3</SP> is H or methyl, are prepared by reacting a norbornane of general formulae or with Rf-R<SP>1</SP>-SH, preferably in the presence of a free radical initiator. Amongst numerous examples are prepared exo-5-(1,1,2,2-tetrahydroperfluorooctylthio) - endo,endo - 2,3 - norbornane dicarboxylic acid-anhydride, free acid and dimethyl ester.
