A shaft for transmission of motion having means which render it axially collapsible, particularly for use as a motor vehicle steering, comprises two elongate parts (2) each having a U-shape and made up of an enlarged base (3) from which two spaced and parallel arms (4) extend, the said two parts being aligned coaxially with each other, but angularly displaced by 90 DEG with respect to each other and with the base of each part inserted between the arms of the other. An elongate body (10) of elastomer material is inter-posed between the two enlarged bases (3) of the two elongate parts (2), the elongate body having, in cross section, four equiangularly spaced radial lobes, each one of the which is located between one arm (4) of an elongate part and an adjacent arm (4) of the other elongate part. Connecting means (16, 14, 14a), are provided for fixing the free end of the arms of one of the elongate parts to a link which is coaxial with and rigidily fixed to the steering-wheel of the vehicle and for fixing the free end of the arms of the other elongate part to a link which kinematically connected to wheels for steering the vehicle in order to transmit to the wheels the steering motion applied to the steering wheel by the driver. <IMAGE> |
