<p>1523344 Motor vehicle suspensions J KOLBE 25 Sept 1975 [27 Sept 1974] 39401/75 Heading B7D In a motor vehicle having a suspension which banks the body of the vehicle inwardly when cornering and comprises front and rear rigid axles 6, 7 connected to body frame 1 by torsionally resilient roll banking arms 9, each banking arm 9 has at its inner end a support member 10 which is connected to the frame 1 by a balljoint 11 and includes two lever arms 14, 15 bearing on the frame 1 through polyurethane cushions 17, 19 the arms 14, 15 and the cushions 17, 19 being aligned along an axis 75 passing through the centre of the ball-joint 11 and through the central region of the associated axle 6, 7. The cusions 17, 19 are carried by respective mounting plates 16, 18 and 20, 21 fixed to the arms 14, 15 and to the frame 1, the upper mounting plate being fixed to the frame in the case of the cushion 17 nearer the associated axle, and to the arm in the case of the other cushion 19. The cushions 17, 19 have curved cross-sections so that shear deformation of the cushions due to transverse axle loading in a turn takes place along circular paths 65, 66 defining a banking arm axis 60 about which a ball-joint 13 connecting the axle to the banking arm 9 moves along a portion 61 of a circular arc 64 to effect inward inclination of the body. Each axle 6, 7 is also connected to each banking arm 9 by polyurethane cushions 25, 27 and by a torque control assembly 36 which resists rotation of the axle. Anti-roll bars 53 are connected to the axles 6, 7 by links 57.</p> |
