Priority traffic control for public transport vehicles - uses signal transmitted from approaching vehicle to control traffic lights

The priority traffic control system is used to aid the circulation of public transport vehicles, e.g. buses, by giving them priority at traffic intersections. It employs a transmitter carried by each vehicle (10) which supplies a signal to the control unit (18) for traffic lights at an approaching traffic intersection. The control unit (18) processes the received signal to calculate the time of arrival of the vehicle (10) at the intersection and compares this with the time according to the vehicle timetable, to control the traffic lights, to obtain the closest parity between them.
