A base polymer that is modified by forming a copolymer with a linear polydiorganosiloxane wherein a terminal functional group of the base polymer is bonded to a reactive group attached to at least one of the recurring siloxane units of the polydiorganosiloxane and a process for making the copolymer. The base polymer preferably is a fiber-forming polymer such as polyamide and polyester. The incorporation of the polydiorganosiloxane into the base polymer improves the processing of the base polymer into a useful product.
