In apparatus for drying a cloth web a, Fig. 1, passing vertically through a casing 1 between two rows of drying gas outlet channels 4, the channels in each row are arranged side-by-side and extend widthwise of the vertical path, a channel which gradually increases in crosssectional area in one width direction of the path alternating with a channel which gradually increases in cross-sectional area in the other width direction as shown in Fig. 5. The gaps 8 between the channels in each row serve as inlet nozzles for drying gas, and the lengthwise mouth 6 of each channel 4 extends withwise of the path, faces towards the path, and gradually increases in width in the same width direction as that in which the cross-sectional area of the channel increases. Each channel 4 has its gas exit 9 at that end of larger area provided with an adjustable damper 10, and is closed at its other end except for small apertures 11. Each mouth 6 is defined by upper and lower lips 5 formed by bending over the inwardly edge zones of each channel. |
