Systems and methods of test packet handling

The present disclosure may include a method of handling test packets in an apparatus with a first unit communicatively coupled with a second unit. The method may comprise designating a test packet with type information, the type information indicating whether the test packet is handled by the first unit, the second unit, or either unit. The method additionally may include setting one or more bits of a register of the first unit to select whether the first unit will handle all of the test packets with type information designating either unit. The disclosure further includes associated systems and apparatuses.

1. A computer-implemented method of handling test packets in a networking node with a first unit communicatively coupled with a second unit, comprising:
the networking node designating a test packet with type information, the type information indicating whether the test packet is handled by the first unit, the second unit, or either unit; the networking node setting one or more bits of a register of the first unit to select whether the first unit will handle all of the test packets with type information designating either unit; receiving the test packet at the first unit or the second unit; and looping the test packet through the first and second units via a backplane prior to terminally receiving the test packet at a test packet handler of the first or second unit, wherein terminally receiving the test packet at a test packet handler of the first or second unit is based at least on the one or more bits in the register.
