PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chalcogenide glass illuminant which emits light with very high efficiency over a wide wavelength range in the infrared region, particularly in the middle infrared region of >=2μm and can easily apply the light emission as a light emitting material of a laser medium, a light amplifier or the like. SOLUTION: The chalcogenide glass illuminant contains ions of 3d transition metal elements (other than ions of Ti and Cu<+> ).
