A smooth elongate body (1) is freely slidable into the openings of the components (5) to be connected, and includes a projecting head (2) at one end to secure it against the components. At the opposite end the body has a transverse aperture (3) through which a wedge (4) may be passed to lock the body against the components. The wedge is trapezoidal in shape and is formed independently of the body. One face of the trapezoidal wedge may be located flat against the vertical surface of one of the components to be locked, with the wedge tapering downwardly. Two washers (6) may be located at each end of the body, surrounding the components and separating them from the head of the body and the wedge.
