PURPOSE: To provide a semitransmissive reflection type liquid crystal display device capable of obtaining a bright display by efficiently reflecting light in a reflective mode and realizing a bright display by sufficiently transmitting light in a transmissive mode with a turned on backlight. CONSTITUTION: The adopted liquid crystal display device 1 is provided with a pair of substrates 10, 20 placed opposite to each other holding a liquid crystal layer 30 in between and a light source (backlight) 5 arranged outside the substrate 10. The adopted liquid crystal display device 1 is characterized by having at least an organic film 11, a metal reflection film 12, an overcoat film 14, an electrode layer 15 and an alignment layer 16 formed on the liquid crystal layer 30 side surface of the substrate 10, by having a number of recessed parts of which inner surfaces constitute a part of spherical surfaces continuously formed on a surface of the organic film 11 and by having 80-500 Å film thickness of the metal reflection film 12.
