437,480. Skid brakes. HUGUENIN, A., 319, Hardstrasse, Z³rich, Switzerland. Oct. 4, 1934, No. 28431. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1933. [Class 103 (i)] Railway brake blocks 3 engaging rails 9 are connected, by a common pivot 31, to thrust rods 5 pivoted to the axle 7 and to tension rods 15 which are connected by a pivot 14 operated by a bell-crank 11, the pivot 14 moving along a substantially straight path. The distance between the axes 3<1> is greater than the diameter of the wheel. The rods 5, 15 are connected by transverse struts 6, 16 respectively. Rods 8 also support the blocks 3. Return springs 17 are provided. In view of the fact that the angle between rods 5, 15 is small the forcing of the blocks against the rails is effected with a comparatively small force and the movement of the pin 14 is small. A large amount of travel is provided for the brake blocks to ensure simultaneous engagement of the blocks on a long train. An arrangement on a bogie with two axles is described in which the brake blocks are arranged symmetrically with regard to the king pin of the bogie. The brake may be operated by compressed air, vacuum or by hand. |
